Dr Marta Urbańska-Arendt

Marta specializes in competition (antitrust) law, unfair competition law, commercial and corporate law, consumer protection issues and civil litigation.

Marta is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Łódź. She also studied at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster. Additionally, in 2003, she completed a two-year course in German Law for Polish Students -Specialist Language Training for Lawyers, and in 2005 – Postgraduate Studies in European Law at the University of Lodz. In 2018, she defended her PhD thesis which was the study in effective application of Polish national antitrust laws to foreign entrepreneurs.

Marta started her attorney traineeship in 2003 at the District Bar Association in Łódź, in a law firm specializing in competition law. From 2007, she ran her own law firm. She also gathered professional experience during an internship at the European Commission in the Directorate General for Competition, working as a member of teams conducting proceedings on infringement of EU competition rules. In 2017-2019, she worked at the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, where she handled proceedings regarding the abuse of a dominant position and anticompetitive  agreements. After that she worked at renowned law firms in Warsaw as Senior Associate. She joined the Cieślak Klimkowski team in February 2023 r.

For nearly twenty years Marta has been advising business clients from various industries, including Life Sciences and FMCG, media, petrochemical, construction. She has supported clients in negotiating and drafting of distribution agreements and in M&A transactions. She has represented entrepreneurs in administrative proceedings before the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection and in court proceedings, including before the Court of Competition and Consumer Protection. Her practical experience encompassesparticipation in searches conducted by the Office of Competition Protection, both aa a public officer and entrepreneurs representative. She is the author of numerous legal opinions on the compliance of intended market activities with the antitrust laws. She is also a co-author of: Chapter-Poland Chambers Cartels 2022 Global Practice Guide. Her experience also includes providing trainings for clients’ managers and employees of various levels, in particular in the field of antitrust law and unfair competition.

Marta’s professional experience , among others, includes

  • advisory services to a Polish entrepreneur in proceedings before the European Commission concerning a cartel on the rubber market,
  • advisory services on the implementation of distribution strategies for a nationwide network of petrol stations and a nationwide network of pharmacies,
  • representation of entrepreneurs in several hundred court proceedings and in compulsory enforcement proceedings.
